  • yesterday, our group of 8 saw a Great Sea Bass of the Catalina Island coast!

this was our first open water training dive towards getting our open water diving certificate!

everyone says we were extremely looking.

The GSB was no more that 2 ft from me and its eye seemed as big as my head.

i looked "her" right in the eye and said hello!!

  • What a great experience for the first dive

it's going to be hard to top that!

  • Btw, I also got a report from a diver that they saw a few medium size giant sea bass off Malaga cove, in Palos verdes California. So hopefully this means they are making a come back.

  • I had the chance to freedive with a couple of these about 25 feet down in Lover Cove, on Catalina. They were the only giant sea bass I have ever seen. It was a pair and I swam with them for 2min. They were as big as they get I imagine. Most of the fish in this video are 1/2 as big as the pair I saw.
