I remember when this first aired on TV in the UK, over 20 years ago now. I was knocked out by it and began my lifelong Mahler journey thereafter. Tennstedt was one of the greatest Mahlerians and this performance of the 8th has never been bettered.

I am sure Mahler would be glad to hear this-the climax is so well prepared-never heard it better-what a luck that we can enjoy this overwhelming performance!!

@flamencobunche It is sad indeed to see this kind of music doesn't attract as many people as pop-crap radio music. More than 10k now by the way. Best composer ever in my opinion.

@frenchbassoon Tennstedt didn´t ruin anything - just because you think this is an organ concerto!

Gorgeous. With ONE exception... at the five-minute mark, when the organ enters. I wanted that organ to really roar, make the building shake, and it just doesn't. That's the easiest way to ruin this finale.

ufff la piel de gallina! viva Mahler!

Were the 2 sopranos Julia Varady & Jane Eaglen?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! PERFECTO!!!

If there was ever a moment of pure....perfection, it happened when Mahler wrote this. Unbelievable music, and an excellent interpretation. I give Tennstedt and this orchestra a tip of my hat.

this video still has less than 10k views :(, i don't get it... i'm still hoping that once i come back to it, suddenly it has 1000000 views and finally gets the attention it deserves. pure perfection...
