Crime And Punishment (1969) (English subtitles). Part 2/2.

A screen adaptation of the novel by the great Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The 19th-century Russia. A poor student, Rodion Raskolnikov, commits a crime which is inevitably followed by pangs of conscience: his soul, burdened by the sin of murder, is torn between faith and faithlessness, hope and despair. The investigation conducted by detective Porfiry Petrovich finally points to Raskolnikov. But before his meeting with the investigator, Rodion experiences a genuine love. This very love will help him repent. The life of the mysterious 19th-century St. Petersburg, the strong, controversial characters and an unexpected outcome hold the viewer in suspense up to the very end.

  • @Eyelash85 The best possible way of adapting Crime & Punishment to the big screen is probably make it into the next epic film, like Gone With The Wind or War & Peace.

  • I thought this was excellent. I worked 21 years for an auto company. The plant closed and I lost my job. Then I wrote a book. I thought it was each funny and interesting. I cannot find a publisher. I read Crime and Punishment many years ago. This is the first film version I have seen. I am thinking of murder. I can justify it as Raskolnikov did. No, I am not Napoleaon. I went to Russia once and found it interesting that they had a statue of Napoleon at Boredino. Why would the invade

  • It's kind of impossible to make a movie of a book from Dostoyevsky with all the detailed emotions and feelings. He was a natural psychologist, maybe because of all he had past. This version is not a bad one, but the book... the book is superb. Uncomparable.

Im letting the The Brothers Karamazov for last, cos people say is his best book. But thank God for Dostoyevsky!

  • Thanks for this amazing post, a true jewel of a movie from my favorite author. Thanks.

  • Awesome
