Meet Ken. He is a toymaker who makes and repairs dolls. He sells them on to the local toy museum and people from all around come to wonder at his craftsmanship. However, those dolls that do not make the grade are simply tossed onto the fire. There they burn in the flames never to be seen again......or so Ken thought.

This video took three weeks to make. I tried to think of what I find creepy or scary, and decided that dolls give me the creeps. I spent the first week writing up a story using story boards and testing out effects to see if they're possible.
The second week was spent filming, this included doing some filming in an actual toy museum. They kindly let me in for free after hours to film the shots I wanted.
The third week was spent editing and doing sound. When I realised I'd gone way over my 3 minutes it meant reshooting some scenes and rewriting the plot a little.
The special FX were all done in Adobe After Effects CS4 and the video was edited in Adobe Premiere Pro.
The sound is from videocopilot's Designer Sound FX DVD.

Trivia
The video is called 'Living Doll' as a nod to an episode of the Twilight Zone that aired back in 1963 starring Telly Savalas.
The character is called 'Ken' in reference to Barbie and Ken.
The opening scene and the end scene start and end on the same dolls in the toy museum.
This won the honour of being the #2 most discussed video of the week in Film & Animation over the Halloween week.

Thankyou's.
I want to say a big thankyou to my wife for being my narrator. She also helped me make key decisions on which scenes to drop and how the story should flow.
I'd like to thank my wife and also Sarah in Charlbury who both wrote the poem. Thanks guys.
I also would like to thank my brother, Brendan, for sending me the scary doll in the post. He actually sent me two scary dolls, but I had to drop one of them from the story. Cheers Bren.
Do you remember Dan who i had a lightsaber duel with and did the Raven magic trick on in the streets (see other videos). I'd like to thank him for whistling "Living Doll" with such finesse and rhythm.
Finally I'd like to say a big thanks to the Toy Museum in Stow on the Wold. They let me in for free and after hours to film the opening and closing shots for this video. If anyone is ever in the Cotswolds then I highly recommend they go visit the toy museum, the collection is stunning, it's a real journey in time.
