@poppp7 The point Carlin was trying to make is that environmentalists at heart don't care about the planet. They just want to fulfill this arrogant, self-righteous purpose that they have given to themselves. It's insincere. There's no sentiment towards the planet. We only really care about the environment when it directly affects our lives. We are killing ourselves, and once we're gone, the planet will renew itself as if we were never there, and a new indigenous species will arise.

Robbybob1, the species extinction rate now is between 10 and 100 times the background rate (i.e. the average rate of extinctions seen in the geological past). Of course, it could be a coincidence that humans couldn't give a damn about the environment or the biosphere, at the same time that this extinction rate is occurring but, somehow, I doubt it. The notion that humans can have no impact on the only place we know we can live is just head in the sand stuff.
