i Totally (with exception of the venturi which didnt need to be removed) diss assembled this carb and thougholy cleaned each component. personally i like the briggs flojet 2 piece carbs. they are easy to work on and easy to see how they work. this one is in very good shape and im hopeing it works as good as a new one.

  • My problem was the gasket around the venturi was to big and holding the float open, and I did find a kit on ebay, but not at my local shop.Runs good now .

  • @69RSZ hey good deal! see these carbs are really not so bad to work on, people just often dont know where to look for problems in these sometimes. I only know the basics on these carbs i am still learing more about them myself

  • Could you tell me what needle is in your carb?My carb keeps floading over and I put a rubber end needle and a aluminum needle in it and it did not help, float level looks ok,just need your HELP,and my local parts guy told me no new parts from briggs, so can you buy new parts someplace?

  • @69RSZ i have a hard time beliving they dont sell parts for that carb anymore. i havent had to buy any parts for one yet. here is what i would look into, check that your float is level when it closes the valve. then if thats not the issue , check and see if your float will still float, it could be bad, that does happen.

  • I always found these updraft carbs to be a serious PITA to deal with. The ones I've come across have all had problems, usually leaking or simply not functioning properly. I think I'll spend a little while and rebuild the two I've got and see if I can't get them working right. When they're cleaned up like this they look great.

  • you know i really havent had too much of a problem with the threads on most of the carb's i have taken apart. just a couple of them were real bad

  • 1/4-32 tap will clean up all the threads ,good to run it down the main nozzle hole before you try to get the tube out .....the main jet adjustments mess the threads up after a while(half century or so)and the little brass slot on the main discharge tube isn't very tough .its an extra fine tap but is available

  • well they really arent all that uncommon.

  • All the ones i tried to fit had so much corrosion in the bottom that the needle thing fell out, have not found many more

  • Rare? hardly! these carbs were used on alot of briggs engines and are quite common. and yeah its not uncommon to find corrosion inside. just give it a good cleaning and usually you can still get some use out of it or sell it for parts.
