  • Why on earth Oasis broke in the states while Suede remained relatively obscure over here is still a mystery to me as Suede were/are a much more interesting band, both musically and visually. I suspect that Brett's overt brand of androgyny was a bit terrifying to the macho boys and even the girls in the states;whereas in European the kids wanted to eat the man alive. It certainly wasn't the music's fault b/c they wrote some of the most delicious pop music ever recorded.

  • I guess Oasis were indeed more laddish and had more mass-appealing, more stadium-sized songs. And indeed, the early Bowie & Roxy Music didn't make it in the States either.

  • Disappointed by the Anti-Americanism in the comments here. Let's face it, Brett's biggest influences are Bowie & Morrissey, both of whom have had huge success in the States, so I'm not buying America's fear of androgyny as the reason why Suede never broke the US market. Dig a little deeper, people. Peace!

  • I watch this and I feel so sad because music of today is so mind-numbingly boring. Although I hear Suede may be releasing new songs soon, lovely

  • The day after this was on Tv I was on a total high at school. Brett was not only my hero, but also my role model.

  • oasis (L) suede (L)

  • fuck US boys ;DD Im happy Suede is quite famous but still a bit underground this days

  • damn, brett sure is HOT!!

  • @ritter89 i agree. im american and where i live, if you arent a total macho guy, then youre pretty much an outcast

  • Dont be dissing oasis.

  • This, mah boys, was responsible for changing the rules on the BRITs. No more repetitive nominations for pricks from yesteryear and has beens with mediocre albums.

This time it was the Indie scene taking over the ceremony. Still up to today that hasn't changed. But now we have glam shite that makes Indie geniuses stay in the dark (maybe because they want it, but that does not allow people to despise them for no reason)

  • Much better than Adele's performance. Agree?
