I saw this at Sundance last week. It was the final film I saw, and it left the most lasting impression of all the films I saw (and I saw many!). The film is very dark, but its message of hope and perseverance in the darkest of circumstances is worth the ride. The performances by the entire cast -- especially Mo'Nique (who won the Sundance acting award) -- are exceptional, as is the direction.
If this film doesn't get picked up for distribution, I'm going to stop going to the movies.

You said, "my people in the ghetto" and if you really know people in the ghetto then you know that what goes on in this book/movie is really happen and much worse! The point isn't "my life is bad but hers is worse" but rather "my life is bad but it could be better!" People in the ghetto need to stop pretending like life there isn't that bad and people like Precious don't exist. Wake up! Excepting the reality of stories like this is how we begin to fix things!
