Its good to see someone built a 4 cyl or a v6 instead of doing a V8 swap like everybody else. i respect that.

My dad had a Chevy Vega before I was born obviously, and had a problem with the 4 speed transmission.... it turns out it had plastic gears!!! But maybe they recalled it because I don't see you having trouble with it. My neighbor has a 2.5 "iron duke" 84' celebrity and had to deal with a similar tranny type problem only his is a automatic. The iron duke is an awesome engine. Hell they prob quit making it due to lasting TOO LONG. No more chevy plant 4 to make them.

why long duration and low lift?
why not high lift and less duration for better spread of power?
the cam is a 260 u say? 260 degrees is not a lot, my diesel uses cam with 244 degrees!

sounds good and did it get sideways on that 0-60 test thats sick. now the 4cyl can finally wear name iron duke with pride

what kind of oil pressure does this engine have? i having some problems with my 151.
Hello. Regarding the cam specs, for the Iron Duke, there were few cam grinds available for the non-crossflow. The first I tried was 275 duration and .554 lift. My valvetrain above 4k rpm sounded like it was being hammered apart due to lifter bleed-down. The .493 lift cam (210 duration @ .050 lift) along with high volume oil pump and Wolverine lifters (bigger oil feed holes) solved the problem. Higher lift causes more geometry and guide wear problems than I wanted to deal with ; )

Nice iron duke im working on my 88 cutlass ciera just trying to get a little bit more power at it so i can keep up with trafdfic merging and everything.
What company did you buy your cam at?

@Pre5tig3 Sorry for the late reply - the cam was custom ground from another cam manufacturer's specs (Isky #951262) at a company called Cal Cams, I believe, in Oakland, CA - back in 1991.

I love it im thinking about putting a 4.3 in mine but for now im just trying to make the 2.3 run! Any tips on performance?

The original 2.3?! Wow, I had a lot of history and grief with that. First, the best carb was the Holley 2300 2bbl 350 cfm using an adapter. The best header was from Hedman and had the big four into two into one collector. The best cams were the longer duration and less lift variety. The head is horrible for flow. One of the biggest improvements is to change the spark advance curve to get about 12 degrees initial and around 36 total by about 2,500 rpm (not including vacuum advance).
