Cardboard Box ~ Jeremy Brett's last performance as Sherlock Holmes (Under Ice by Kate Bush)

I hardly watch Memoirs because it's obvious that Jeremy was terribly unwell. I like to remember him healthier and happier. The Cardboard Box was the last episode. Jeremy's physical weight being at its best in a good while after having pounds of water drained from his body. Jeremy suffered toxic poisoning from the drug lithium ( + serve water retention). Which is why in later shows Jeremy appears puffy faced and very over weight. By Memoirs the tragic signs of heart failure were too obvious to hide.
Jeremy at times needed a wheelchair and ventilated oxygen between filming. He was amazingly brave to carry on.

I thought I'd include the last words Jeremy ever uttered as Sherlock Holmes in this video. It may have been his last as Sherlock Holmes but Jeremy still lives on in my heart, theres a flame burning there just for him. I know Im not alone in how I feel about Jeremy whose far more than just an actor to me. We love you Mr Brett!

The Sherlock Holmes boxset containing all the episodes is wildly available and can be brought at a reasonable price via ebay. Good quality productions deserve the respect due to them, by paying for the them. :-)

I also could barely watch The Memoirs, just too painful. I remember watching this episode with tears streaming down my face at Jeremy's final words. Just too poignant. Thanks for this video.

Yes. Those words were so poignant. weren't they. I didn't really 'Memoirs' as Jeremy wasn't feeling himself (physically and mentally) throughout. But I am glad he managed to do 'Cardboard Box', it was a good note to end on, I feel. Even though Jeremy looks ill he seems very much himself too. I know he was pleased with this final words as Holmes. That is also nice to know. :)

i watched the memoirs series and i found that it hurt to see how he had aged in just ten years and to see how ill he was.

his bravery is something everyone should learn from.
