This is how my dad knits, and he taught me to do the same. He explained that it makes more sense, and is faster, since you don't have to keep letting go of the needle and then grabbing it again.

I do flicking, but I have to wrap the working yarn around my pinkie, so it stays tighter.
It has increased my speed a lot since I started, I used to do the tradition English style. I Started it because I am left handed but can't do continental very well.

This is how I knit also, called "Lever knitting" by Jackie E-S at Heartstrings, and also called "Irish Cottage Knitting."

Welcome to the world of speed knitting!! I bet your stitches are nice and tight now too.... Never understood English style knitting....

I didn't know I was a flicker either! i love how people discover the same technique all by themselves. Thank you Ms. VP Knits for putting a name to it.

I had no idea that i was a flicker.
The way i do it is somewhat similar but i hold the working yarn in my left threaded like im crocheting and i use the needle to wrap kind of like im crocheting it is so much easier for me to do it that way :D

@Dnangel665 Yes - it sounds like your knitting style is what is normally called "Continental". I have a video called "Knitting Help - Lefties vs. Righties" that shows the difference between Continental and English knitting. (Sorry, YouTube won't let me link to it directly, but you can search for it on my channel page.)

Thanks for this video. I'll have to practice and see if your way works for me. Currently, I can knit by throwing more quickly and efficiently, but am having trouble purling the same way and with speed and efficiency. Could you please do a video on how you alternately knit and purl by Flicking? Thanks in advance!

@Mitts09 Yes - that's a good idea. Many people have adopted this flicking style, but I suppose I could do an "advanced" flicking video! Thank you!

how do you tension the yarn? Like how are you holding it? I have tried to knit like this but my stitches are either too tight or way to loose. Also how are you keeping the stitches on the needle? Mine keep falling off.

@ecote96 I just hold the yarn across my palm, with my middle, ring and pinkie bent to hold it. It takes practice to get good tension this way. Most people wrap the yarn around their pinkie once or twice.
