The Pollock & Pollock Gossip Show, which began in 1985, was arguably the most controversial, most watched and most discussed of the Videon shows. After this unclassifiable program was abruptly cancelled in 1989, reports of its strangeness grew and grew, eventually taking on legendary proportions.

Basically, "Rockin' Ronnie" Pollock would spin tunes while his sister "Nifty Natalie" would indulge in what might possibly be described as interpretive dance. "Anyone can come and join us," Ronnie announced during one show promo, and he wasn't kidding. Along with stray guests the Pollocks picked up on the street or at the mall, this shambolic program might feature Liberace song stylings from a tone-deaf cross-dresser, a dance routine from a shuffling, half-nude elderly man, or an appearance by two giggly, tongue-tied, high-school girls.

TV was so much better back then, they actually allowed real people to make their own shows. That would never happen today, you'd never see a show like this. Its all corporate now. Fantastic show, I watched every week.

Furthermore, the Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919, and have a long history behind them, and as a result several generations of fans. This has helped to secure a strong base which would deter any move from Green Bay.  Many small towns had their own teams, but they have disappeared. The Jets OTOH, were founded in 1972 and the comparison cannot be made.

The Packers have a unique ownership structure, which also deters any move or sale. but one that would be hard to replicate elsewhere.

The Art Gallery, Ballet and Fringe Festival are awesome, but that is almost all Winnipeg has going for it. As I said before, Winnipeg could disappear and few people would even notice.
