You can tell from the locomotive (as its a "J-1" vs a "J-3" Hudson that wasn't built till 1938) plus women's hairstyles & dress that this is @ 1932 - 35. The video affirms Lucius Beebe's comment that, though the Century departed from/arrived in NYC, "it was a Chicago Train" (partly due to meeting celebrities, etc from western Railroads).
@MsC1953 Yes, the Century and some other "name" trains were so popular that they ran in sections to accomodate the public demand. At its peak, the Century ran in three and even four sections.
Do they vacuum the seats on Amtrak before every trip today? And also, it's nice that they served fresh food on the trains. Last time I rode on Amtrak, they served canned soda, snacks in bags (Lays, Chex Mix), and Cup Noodle (gives me a stomach ache).
This is awesome! Never knew what went into supplying the train back then. Love those giant baskets - love to find one someplace! - with the NYCRR on the side. Thanks for posting this!
