Our cities hold treasure troves of architectural splendour and examples of fine stonemason's skills. Here in this video I walk around Preston city centre and explore some of this heritage, some now derelict like the St Josephs orphanage. Within the city small expanses of parks allow lunches to be taken in the sunlight and way from office desks. Preston has many churches and chapels and almost everyone of them has beautifully crafted stone carvings and you can only stand in awe of the skills involved. The Town hall and Harris Library are similarly adorned with such works of art. As film makers and photographers I feel we owe a duty to record our city scenes so future generations can look back at how our cities evolve as business needs change and how people relate to their environment.

  • great to see the 'Heathen' swastikas displayed on St.Wilfreds church.

  • @veorsonn well spotted, I hadn't noticed them before.

  • @ghough12 - isnt it called a 'Manji' when its reversed like that and has no Nazi significance whatso ever (obviously). I had forgotten about them for 25 years +

    Great Vid

  • @M4OON The manji is a japanese symbol however I'm not sure how this relates to the ornamental border on St Wifreds. I must do some more research! Thanks for your comments.

  • You've made my home town look very beautiful and interesting - it makes me look at it in a slightly different light now - Thanks for that :)

Oh yeah the clarity & composure is crystal clear & very clever - well done

  • @robincarteruk Thanks for viewing, appreciate your kind comment.

  • I have owned a shop in Preston for over 20 years, and remember the controversy when the modern sculpture of martyrs was erected outside the old public hall on Lune Street. I think you have chosen some superb angles to view this sculpture from, really bring out the meance in the soldiers and the look of fear in the figures of the martyrs. I get fed up of friend and colleagues complaining about the drab architecture of Preston, when there are some real gems.

  • wonderful as always G! ... so what do you think ... should I get the FZ100 to go along with my Z7? ... it does appear to have DOUBLE the zoom ... do you love it?
