High five for having the original printing of the game! I have it too... been playing this game for like 8 years now and it's still a blast. I think the newer printing of cities and knights isn't as good because the barbarian double hex piece doesn't fit in the border like in the original printing.

You cannot use a single 12 sided die, because in Cities & Knights one die (the red one) determines whether you can draw a progress card.
