Obama Announces First New Nuclear Loan Guarantee

Speaking from a jobs training center for energy hardware and software in Lanham, Maryland, President Obama touted the need for more investment in clean energy jobs as well as announced the first new nuclear plant loan guarantee in more than 3 decades. The loan was awarded to Southern Company at its Vogtle station in Georgia. This comes on the one year anniversary of the stimulus bill.

@streetfightspdx u might want to do some research on a plane flying in to a nuclear plant becuase the reactor is inside a very very large amount of concrete and lead there is security everywhere 3 different fences plus one before you get to the Vital Area. Also if you had worked in a Nuclear plant you would understand how both TIM and chernobyl happened but there are checks apone checks it also helps that you have the NRC and INPO looking over every nuclear plants shoulders

@emenHX this is true but with sun you have to have no clouds in the sky, with wind you have to have wind constently, if the river runs dry you loose hydro (dont know anything about geothermal and tidelwave) but nuclear reactors can produce upwards of 1200 MWe/hr and that is 24hr day per reactor for about 10.5-11 months a year because of outages but the other sources of energy will not produce as much energy an hour

$8 billion for Southern company - the coal barons who rely on the rail barons to bring their coal in from the Montana coal mines - the skids are greased the whole way along. Obama is just doing the bidding of the robber barons on this - and no, Southern won't be shutting down any coal plants, either.

Mr.Obama - those jobs you mention will still get exported - because an engineer in India will work for 1/4th of the money and the Chinese factory worker will work for 1/8th of the money.

There is nothing you can offer to the companies here in USA which would compell them NOT to go outside the US borders.
