Historic Photograhs of the Beaver Creek Guest Ranch which included the V bar V Ranch during the 1930s. Pictures include the winter operation along Beaver Creek, the mid point which was located at Buckhorn Cabin along upper Clear Creek, and the summer headquarters at Harris park as well as photos of cattle drives, famous stallions and bulls which were part of the breeding stock and photos of cowboys and cowgirls of the period.

  • Buckhorn Cabin was shared between the V Bar V Ranch

and the M Diamond Ranch. The M Diamond ran then and runs now, the Buckhorn Allotment.

  • In the beginning, I think they may have shared the corral and spring. Irvin had his own cabin which was just before the lower gate toward the canyon. When I was up there 20 years ago with Dave Hopkins, who was Irvin's brother-in-law, he showed me the place where they used to sleep as all that was left of that cabin was the floor. I think hunters and barn wood collectors have probably burned all that is left of that cabin. I would not be surprised if that cabin was visible in these photos.

  • Thanks Pete, I have done what I could to preserve the buildings and the memory. I am still pestering the Forest Service with the idea of preserving Buckhorn some way. I established a register there trying to mitigate the vandalism.
