TITLE: Not for sale

ABSTRACT: A Documentry of the Observatorio for Corporate Social responsibility, coproduced by Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED).

The people all around the world are becoming increasingly dependent on a small number of large multinational businesses. Monsanto controls 90% of the production of genetically modified seeds. Microsoft holds 88.26% market share of the software industry, followed by apple with Mac who hold 9.93%. Everyday 150 million people throughout the world buy a Unilever product without even realising it. Mc Donalds, serve 58.1million meals a day around the world. Of the 100 largest economies of the world, 51 of them are businesses. The state loses power at the same rate as businesses gain it. Globalisation has created a context which requires a redefinition of the rules for the global 21st century society.

Within this context rises the debate of Social Corporate Responsibility or of (CSR) companies emerging at the starting point from which they can re-establish the balance between economic development, sustainable environment and the social development needed in order to build the new society that we long for. Even though a gradual interest in Coporate Social Responsibility is being created, as much in business circles as in social circles, the process is still slow.

It is time that we consider the type of society which we wish to build and what role we are going to play in its development. We must assume the role of consumers, workers and of public opinion involved in the application of responsible practices in all aspects of business activity.

  • A well balanced documentary that shows a history for the need for more Corporate Social Responsibility, using the opinions of leading people. After the 'Global Financial Crises' of 2008, some people may be looking for a 'new model' for big business to provide more equitable interaction with the communities they affect, with suppliers & the environment they take resources from. This documentary balances the view that companies should act for communities honestly while making a profit for all.

  • @Aadryk You think that responsible consumerism is utopian? And you're suggesting a resource-based economy instead?!? hahaha

  • @TheJames281 Well we are seeing that Responsible consumerism is not a Utopia, It's an IMPOSSIBILITY. If not, Why are we ALL still buying at Wal-Mart!? ¬¬

It's SO real for people to consume responsibly with 1 dollar a day right!?

    - What should I do!? Use this dollar to Survive or should I care about Trees dying in the rain forest!? The rain forest it is! *Goes into fetal position and dies* ¬¬

(Oh and please remember that Capitalism is a Utopia too)

  • The consumer cannot buy "Responsibly" As this idiots say... The consumer cannot give himself the luxury of paying more for a service that is environmentally aware, people only want to save money, because the majority live in the middle class or in poverty I want to see you living with 4 dollars a day consuming responsibly don't be stupid... and if people that can feel they are not directly involved they don't care about the consequences, Open your eyes! Responsible consuming is a fantasy!!

  • The only REAL solution is The venus project, everything else will cause the same problems over time! Money corrupts, end of story!

  • English ofcourse?!

  • @russellhbarnes true,, but the ultimate goal is to do what zeitgeist suggests. Profit is really the last thing we need because it only makes is greedy which in turn leads to war and all similiar miseries
