I've read many times that the personality of the calligrapher is reflected in the style of his characters. So, do you think a beginner should try to choose to learn a style (e.g. Yan or Liu) that matches his personality, or is it not important for the first few years of practice?

There are no definite answers as to how a beginner or a teacher should choose a style for the beginner. It depends on many factors.

Many teachers agree that they cannot choose a style for a beginner if that style contradicts the beginner's personality, taste, or preference too much.
