After seeing a special screening of "A Star Is Born" at Grauman's Chinese Theatre last night, w/Judy Garland's glorious and brilliant rendition of the song "The Man That Got Away" I felt inspired to post this video I did of the song, but in a special Christmas rendition. Keep in mind, I like to think that Jesus had a great sense of humor. That said-- please enjoy! This song was performed as part of the brilliant Jackie Hoffman show "Jackie's Kosher Xmas" in NYC.

  • Hey, I'm flying to SF to see "Tales of the City", and I just realized you're going to play Mona.....one of my very favorite characters. I'm so happy and relieved it's someone I already really like because I LOVE the original series and books so much!! YEAH!!!! I'm bringing six people with me from Washington state all to see the show. So excited!!! BTW, I'm the "Joan Crawford Christmas Dance Mix" guy.

  • @stevers62 hey! that's awesome! i'm so glad you will get to see the show, because i really really love it!

    see you soon!

  • Your amazing.

  • One word...BRILLIANT!

  • Out of control!

  • @marybirdsong Saw Saturday's performance of "Tales of the City". LOVED IT!!! Perhaps you saw me in the balcony with my friends. We were the row of homosexuals.....OK, that doesn't narrow it down much....they have them on TV now, though.

Anyway, great job!! You did Mona proud. Now back home in Washington state. Hope you have a good, long run and that no one falls off any of those stairways. It was so well acted and choreographed in every sense of the word.

  • I saw the Judy impersonator on Reno 911 and at first I said "There's no such thing as a female Judy Garland impersonator," then I said "It's got to be Mary Birdsong." It's a great impersonation - the best.

  • @Throwslikeagirlinc Completely agree!! Judy was always the first to laugh at herself, which is part of what made her so wonderful and accessible.....well that and just being ENORMOUSLY talented with a nearly super-humanly powerful voice. I always thought it would have been great if she and Ethel Merman had done a Super-Friends type show where they disabled the bad guys with a big loud round of belting. They could have taken Mel Torme down on the first episode :-)

  • Stevers- Oh, thank you so much! I like to think that Judy had a great sense of humor about ALL things (including herself), & wouldn't be NEARLY as self-righteous as a lot of her fans can sometimes be. I respect the fact that her fans r protective of her legacy, but I also think it's fine when those who love/worship Judy also poke fun @ her occasionally. It's like my mom- I love & respect my mother, yet she's one of the people I have the most fun making fun of! I feel the same about Judy. :-)

  • Mary, I bought your Judy DVD, and meant to say just how AMAZING it is. I bet Judy would be laughing her ass off if she were in the audience!!
