Flying my P-40 for the 2nd time. First flight was just trimming/testing. Flies pretty well!

Completed this ARF kit with:
1. 2x Eflite S60 servos
2. AR500 Receiver
3. 10A Eflite BL ESC
4. 430MAH 2S Battery

Basically stock setup, except the AR500, which I placed into the 'hatch' area. If you want to see how I fit it in, check out my other vids!

I used the AR500 over the recommended AR6100e because the AR500 has more range. I have pretty good eyes, and I like to be able to fly as far away as I want without worrying about TX/RX connection. I figured with a plane this small, and the AR500 receiver, the plane would have to be too far away to see before I lose signal.

AR500 = 7G
AR6110e = 4G

So not a HUGE difference, but a slight difference. Not enough to change flight. And I feel worth the added range so I don't have to worry about losing my plane in some trees :)

  • on my second flight, the elevator snapped off in mid-flight

  • @EnterpriseXI damn, mine has had over 100 flights and a few crashes, some hard ones, I had to replace the main wings after doing some damage to them, but so far elevator has had no problems.

  • Well I have the ar6110e on my quadcopter and it went up to 300ft and still work I think the rang this 600ft I think on it I don't know

  • @stewjw it's cool. this plane is *not* underpowered on 2cell. It is plenty strong and fast on 2cells!

  • @earthling1984 Oops you had already replied about the 3S battery, I'll maybe try it at a later date. Most of the planes I've tried with 2S batteries such as the FMS warbird series are woefully underpowered.

  • @stewjw Yes, I have tried a 3cell, and it works just fine with the 'stock' 10A esc. I think it was around 200 to 300mAh that fit in there. The damn thing goes like a speed demon on 3cell(Got it on radar going almost 50 on 2cell, 3cell is just crazy). Don't fly multiple 3cells in it back to back without letting the ESC and motor cool though, cus a full high throttle flight on 3cells does warm the motor a bit, if you are flying half throttle a lot, it stays pretty cool though.

  • @earthling1984 A bit off topic but if you like hand launched planes check out the Rarebear, Hobbyking sell it, its brilliant; replace the cheap ESC though. I've just put together the P40 I've got to maiden it. Have you tried a 3S battery with it; unsure if one would fit or be too heavy. It is a nice looking model aircraft.

  • @stewjw Thanks :) You will enjoy this plane. You can even use a 3cell lipo in it and it is crazy fast - but this does cause the motor to get a little warm - 2cell is recommended battery and it is plenty fast and fun! I have seen people add a rudder to this plane, it is possible and there is enough space. You may need to shave a little foam inside and/or create a push rod canal, but people have done it.

  • Nice video, I just bought a kit off ebay.I like these hand launched planes. Well done also to tmhe camera person keeping up with you. I'll check your other video , is there space or is it worth, putting in a servo for rudder control.

  • @bolimac :) actually most the people in the flying clubs around here are older guys. Many in their 30's to 50's, and also a lot of retired war vets that are even 70+
