On the 24 January 1986, the probe Voyager 2 passes through the Uranus system.

The probe is carrying different detectors : magnetometers, plasma detectors, low-energy charged particles detectors, cosmic rays detectors, radiowaves receivers.

Recordings were made.

Interractions of the solar wind with planet's magnetosphere, magnetosphere itself, electromagnetic fields, charged particles emissions, charged particle interactions of the planet, its moons, and the solar wind.

All this electromagnetic phenomenons can be transformed into electric signals, which can in turn be amplified and used to excite the membrane of a loud speaker ; thus making audible to the human ear the rustling of the cosmos.

All these sounds were recorded while Voyager 2 was passing near Uranus' moon Miranda, and assembled without manipulation.

From "Symphonies of the Planet vol.2 - Miranda", Nasa Voyager Recordings, Brain/Mind Research, 1990.

  • I just found this album on Amazon after months of searching for it. I might have just been failing at looking in obvious places, but I think it's uploaders like you that gave this the popularity it needed for Amazon to take notice. So thanks.

  • Thanks. The all collection is breath-taking and deserved much more light. If interested, you can also check out at the rework of these ten discs published by Laserlight Digital / Delta Music in 1992, in 5cds. It is a reassembly of selected sounds of the original Voyager recordings, with more spatialisation in the mix. Amazon is your friend on this. Best.
