Automated Composite Isogrid Fabrication

Early demonstration of automation approach for fabricating advanced composite isogrid panels. Concept included running a bank of single tow placement heads for each of the 0/60/-60 rib orientations. Since isogrid spacing between the heads is the same for all directions being laid then the same bank of heads could be used for each direction. A basket weaving approach is used to obtain optimum strength. A novel edge design transitions the rib so that loads can be transitioned into and out of the panel efficiently.
