Hi slw531: you are right. We don't see skating like this now because of the new judging system, where every move and every beat of music is quantified. There were many criticisms of the old system, but this new one has diminished the sport we love so much. I could watch Natalia (who now coaches in Texas) and Artur forever....

the new chinese pairs are awesome for their power, and they even have speed, but they still don't compare to this (and G&G, of course) for unison, body carriage, and expression. they look like ballet dancers on ice - the chinese are starting to get the artistry, but they still seem to have an almost "military" quality. of course, G&G almost "made love" on the ice - their unison and expression was untouchable

oh, i know - i cried like a baby when i heard sergei died. i still can barely watch their performances without crying. my favorites are their olympic golds, "vocalise", "porgy and bess", "the man i love", and "out of tears". i saw a comment the other day on a newer pairs performance - something about shen and xao being the best pairs skaters ever, and i had to STRONGLY rebuke them! and then there's this new world champ pair skating for germany - i watched their medal performance - (yawn) :)

Hi vkvandyke--I agree with you, that this performance was so special. With the current judging system, I don't think we will see many of these beautiful, passionate programs because now skaters have to calculate the value of each move. I loved G&G also. What a tragedy that Sergei left us (and his Katya) too soon.... would welcome your comments on figure skating.

utterly amazing. and most people have never heard of them or seen this. i am a huge G&G fan (in fact, i would have loved to have seen THEM do this program!), but THIS particular performance was so awesome. i will never forget watching it - her flexibility and his power - they were one of the best ever. he could make anyone look good, for that matter!
