After nearly two years and more than 26,000 miles, a Central Michigan University physics professor has pieced together 3,000 individual photographs and transformed them into one panoramic image of the full night sky with the Milky Way galaxy at its center.

  • Absolutely phenomenal! If you go to Axel Mellinger's website, there is an interactive zoom version of this, which shows every galaxy, nebula, and star that is viewable from Earth -- 500,000,000 pixels of our universe! Some of these are 100s of times fainter than we can see with just our naked eyes.
