El Fuego Early Music Ensemble performs at the Beacon Hill Friend's House as part of one of Fringe concerts during the Boston Early Music Festival on Monday June 13th, 2011.
Performers:
James Dargan, baritone; Teri Kowiak, voice; Dan Meyers, percussion; Camila Parias, soprano; Zoe Weiss, baroque cello. Salome Sandoval, voice, baroque guitar and artistic direction.

El Fuego (meaning fire in Spanish) has impressed audiences with their synthesis of early music and folk styles; their versatility as singers and multi-instrumentalists is shown in their unique repertoire from Spain and the New World colonies. Artistic Director Salome Sandoval has received wide acclaim for singing while providing her own continuo parts on lutes and guitars; together with Teri Kowiak (voice) and Dan Meyers (woodwinds and percussion), they create an unusually rich sound, full of melodic and rhythmic excitement in their performance of Villancicos and Xacaras, keeping the flame of little-known musical masters burning in the 21st century.

Juan de Araujo (1646-1712):
- Ay Andar a tocar a cantar a baylar: Let's all go now, to play, to dance and sing out loud! If you don't want to sing, you will lose your throat by the law of misrule. Let's all go now, to beat all the tambourines! No one will be excused, for where there is a crowd, many tambourines will be found. Let's all go now, to dance with all our bunions! Those with little agility won't avoid having blisters. Let's all go now, play non stop Pascual! Today a rare jewel was born, let all and one and many more
splinter themselves for dancing so much! Repeat Pascual,—which song?
What will be of this deity once grown, if as newborn there is no one like Him, play non stop Pascual, for today was born He who gives us life!
1-.Rattle the jingles fully, for today tearing myself apart I shall dance even faster than the strongest winds.
2-.The Mother of the sun wants the best song in Portugal on the music stand.
3-.A daring altar boy shouted with a loud voice, he made much a piercing sound that a deaf was cured.
4-.Another with his footwork, tried fancy tricks but all what he did, was to polish the threshold.
