Our daughter is almost 1 yo. Sometimes she has such kind of 'spasms' hundred times per day. During those episodes she is stiffening her legs and grunting. EEG has been normal.

Does it look like a self stimulation?

Update from September 2011:
Around the time of the video we had an appointment with a neurologist and she told us that it is a self stimulation. My wife got an idea that it could be related to tight seat belts in child's car seat. Few months later when we travelled to Russia, we decided to use only public transport there. Amazingly after two months of non-using of car seat our daughter stopped stiffing legs on regular basis. After that trip we saw her doing that a couple of times when she was very tired and unsettled in the late evenings. She is nearly 4 now, and didn't do it for the last year or so.

  • hi I just came across your video and was wondering if your daughter was ever diagnosed with anything? My 11 months old has been doing the exact same thing (interlocking legs, stiffening them) since she was 6 month old, and although I found it a little strange it never alarmed me, but now I am starting to worry a bit. If you can, please update on her condition.

  • @brandyluis11 I don't know where you live but Minneapolis Children's Hospital or The Mayo Clinic are wonderful medical clinics. They are located in Minnesota. I would consult with someone there as a last resort if everything is coming back normal and the same behavior continues.

  • hi! my daughter has a schedule for EEG also this week and i hope the result will be normal.. she's doing stiff legs before going 2 sleep.. neurologist is not sure about this kind of result.. lets pray for our angels:)

  • My daughter is also 1yr old and having the same stiffening of her legs. We had an MRI today and have been scheduled for an EEG. Doctors are telling me they are not sure what is going on. We have been to see a neurologist, GI, and endocrinologist and they all state that whatever she is doing is not related to their field and they have never seen anything like this. I am desperate to find an answer. Hoping that you or someone else will have some incite. Please contact me at edavies0419@yahoo.com
