Michelangelo Buonarroti was a sculptor, painter, architect and the Italian poet. The protagonist of the Italian Renaissance, was recognized even in his time as one of the greatest artists of all time.

Arrangements to do with his relentless pursuit of the beauty business. He was an artist as talented as a whole restless. His name is linked to a series of works that have given the history of art, some of which are known throughout the world and considered one of the most important works of Western art: the David, the Pieta, or the cycle frescoes in the Sistine Chapel are considered insurmountable intellectual creative achievements.

The study of his works marked successive generations, giving life, with other models, a school that made art "produced in" his and that goes under the name of mannerism.

Michelangelo was born March 6, 1475 in Caprese, in the province of Arezzo.

Michelangelo, however, breaks the commitment and adheres to the free school of sculpture and ancient copy, commissioned by Lorenzo de 'Medici in the gardens of San Marco. The Florentine patrons took notice of the talent of Michelangelo and welcomes him into his palace. And 'here that he meets the young Buonarroti famous cultural figures such as humanist Angelo Poliziano, Marsilio Ficino, Pico della Mirandola. For the Medici court, he produced his first sculpture, "The Battle of the Centaurs", the "Madonna of the Stairs."

In 1498, Michelangelo got his first important commission. This is the "Pieta" in St. Peter's today. In 1501 began a period of intense activity: it is in Florence, where he expects to "David", which in 1504 will stand in the Piazza della Signoria. Meanwhile, following the project of "apostles" to the Duomo and is dedicated to paintings. Pier Soderini, Gonfaloniere of Florence, commissioned the "Battle of Cascina" and the "Doni Tondo".

In 1504, Pope Julius II called him to Rome to make his tomb. Michelangelo will never fully complete the project, as revised from the initial one by the heirs of the Pope and of this "tragedy burial", as it is wont to call it, we regret to the end. In May 1508, after a long period of litigation, finally signed a contract with Julius II for his masterpiece, the "Sistine Chapel". Michelangelo - that moves continuously between Rome, Florence and Carrara, where he personally controls the marble for his work - everything aside and devoted himself to the chapel without interruption until 1512. The tomb of the Pope is still in progress, the teacher he realizes some parts: "Prisons" and "Moses."

And 'in 1524, when Pope Clement VII is the new house of the Medici and commissioned Michelangelo to the "Laurentian Library" and the continuation of papal tombs, started in 1521 and finished in 1534. In September of that year, Michelangelo is able to obtain the assignment for the "Last Judgement" in the Sistine Chapel, which he completed in 1541, attracting acclaim and controversy. During these years Michelangelo was in Rome and firmly binds friendship with Tommaso de 'Cavalieri, with whom to exchange letters and drawings and poems which he dedicated.

There is also a love in her life with the Marchioness of Pescara, Vittoria Colonna, close to the events of the Reformation and the ideas of Valdes, which even approaches the teacher.

Wait until 1550 to the frescoes of the Pauline Chapel in the Vatican and held jobs as an architect, Palazzo Farnese in the rearrangement of the Capitol, to the towering works for St. Peter, head of the factory where he wants Pope Paul III.

Meanwhile creates other sculptures: the "Pieta Rondanini", the "Pieta" of the Cathedral of Florence.

He died February 18, 1564, having made a will, as reported by Vasari as "three words, which left his soul in God's hands, his body to the ground, and the stuff closest relatives."
