@MrTopKnob ahhh that makes perfect sense.

That was a very nice landing!
Good job!

australia has an air force? lol just kidding.
but ya, i've seen videos of people doing that. you would think that if there is any fuel in the belly of the aircraft the friction of the runway would make it ignite.

there is no form of warning that a wheel has fallen off except for the ground crew and control tower advising them of it. There is still no form of warning. If this happened again, aircrew would have no warning what so ever, unless someone outside of the aircraft saw it fall off.
-
There would have had to have been some form of warning in the cockpit alerting the pilots that there was an issue.

This reminds me of a RAAF Macchi landing wheels up in WA. The control tower tried contacting the Pilot many times on approach as his landing lights were off, these signify the landing gear is down.
His answer:"I couldn't hear you with the all the noise with the warning horn sounding". It also advises the Pilot there is something wrong.
As for the F111's they also found there were incorrect procedures and checks being carried out on Wheel installation on a lot of the
F111's.

the hook was originally for carrier operations of the f111b but it never saw production
australian pilots are the best

Can I firstly say that it wasn't the nose landing gear that fell off, it was actually the left main wheel. The wheel nut that is used to hold the wheel on was actually cross threaded and the wheel fell off on take off. Should be thankful that this did not happen at night, otherwise the aircrew would not have had any indication that the wheel was missing and nobody would have seen it fall off. It could have been a lot worse or even a disaster. Lives could have been lost, thankfully they weren't.
