Governor Strickland wrapped up the opening day addresses at the 2010 Ohio AFL-CIO Convention. He told Convention attendees that "our way of life is at stake." There is developing in this country today a group of people who simply don't believe" in that way of life and instead, "believe that the well off and the wealthy are the ones who count in this society."

He went on to talk about Kasich's anti-worker record as a Congressmember, including his support of trade deals that shipped hundreds of thousands of jobs overseas, vote to cut over a billion dollars from healthcare for veterans, and refusal to vote to close a loophole that allowed the rich to dodge their taxes by renouncing their American citizenship. He also highlighted Kasich's time at Lehman Brothers where he made millions of dollars and "tried to get Ohio public pension systems to investment with Lehman Brothers" before the company went bankrupt. "Lehman Brothers went bankrupt and this economy went over the cliff," said Strickland. Kasich "says he wants to bring his business experience to the Governor's office. Well, the only business I know he's ever been involved in is Lehman Brothers."

The Governor -- who made a brief appearance at a rally with President Clinton and thousands of Ohioans before participating in his first debate against opponent John Kasich last night -- spoke about his Administration's successes at reforming education, passing a green energy bill that provides for cheaper energy costs, freezing college tuition, and other steps that have kept Ohio moving forward. The Governor concluded by telling the Convention he was committed to fight and win this election for working families. "I'm concerned about my state...What we are fighting for is worth fighting for, we are fighting for our way of life, we are fighting for a middle class...we are fighting for the dignity of working people."
