Demolitions Continue in Syrian al Jazeerah

Syrian authorities in the al-Jazeerah provinces continue to carry out the orders for demolitions of unlicensed settlements and dwellings. The decision is affecting the lives of thousands of Kurdish families, who appear to be the primary targets here, and is hailed as a revival of the ruling Baath Party's policy of Arabization. The authorities offer no alternatives or compensations to the people affected by the demolitions, while obtaining a construction permit or a license have always been impossible. Conditions in Syria's Kurdish continue to resemble those in Gaza, and the presence of Syrian authorities with their policies of Arabization and targeting of Kurdish inhabitants has long become synonymous with occupation. This leaves little room fro any rational attempt at tackling the Kurdish Question in Syria.
