John Petrucci - Glasgow Kiss - Bass Arrangement by Juan Carlos Enriquez

A humble tribute to John Petrucci. I made this arrangement for my Berklee College of Music auditions in Dec. of 2008. This was definitely one of my worst performances ever of it, but in my defense (haha) I recorded this video the first week after six long months of not even touching my bass. :P

I was beta testing the upcoming music recording software by Propellerhead, the creators of "Reason", called "Record", so I decided to record and mix my arrangement wit it. In the video I include a small glimpse of what the interface looks like as I recorded the bass part and I show a little bit of some of the program's main features, such as the integrated Line 6 amp modeling and effects plug-ins (very cool by the way!).

THE PROCESS:
For the backing track I transcribed by ear the entire drums and guitar parts and wrote them down in Sibelius. After I had the complete score I exported the MIDI file to Cubase.

I sequenced the instrumental tracks using sample libraries, mainly Stormdrum and Ministry of Rock. I also recorded some of the rhythm guitar section with an electro acoustic and processed it with Guitar Rig.

Before I was done with the track I changed of OS, so I finished and mixed the final version of the track in Logic.
