The Island, a gem on Chicago's West Side

Just after Memorial Day Tyler Rice, a college student who lives in The Island with his grandmother took me on a walking tour of his neighborhood.

The Island is a small, stable, integrated pocket of Austin, bordered by Cicero and Oak Park. It spans the area from Roosevelt Rd (1200 S) north to the Eisenhower Expressway, from Central Ave (5600 W) west to Austin Ave (6000 W).
