In 1956 my family went on an outing to visit the filming of The Big Land starring Alan Ladd and Virginia Mayo. The movie filming that day was set up near Sonora California. While there we took some movies with our family camera, capturing some of the behind the scenes. Notice in the last shot with Alan Ladd on the hill, you can see the cameras shooting the scene. As a child it was very exciting to see the movie stars and the action around filming. As I remember the wagon scene had to be shot more than once. This locomotive in this clip is named the movie star locomotive because it appears in over 100 movies - among them is The Big Land, Back To The Future 3, High Noon, and The Great Race. This 1891 steam locomotive is still around. It's home is at Railtown located in Jamestown near Sonora, California. Railtown 1897 State Historic Park offers train rides and tours.
