Haha, you are exactly right. There was no way to tell if a game was good. So they slapped together a worthless game and put a brand on it in hopes it would sell. I think the best part of it is the cartridge label.
I remember my Toys 'R' Us sold NES games for up to $70. It was outrageous. As late as 1997 Target was charging $70 for Chrono Trigger. Maybe I just lived in an extra shitty town though.
