Since we didn't have an external microphone, it was hard to hear, so here are the questions and answers. They might night exactly match the words: The ending was cut off a bit, but I wrote it at the bottom

"Patrick Chan" "Students Live" Olympics Toronto Vancouver Games "figure skating"

I was extremely "fan girl" in the beginning. I told him we would be speaking in French, by saying I've always wanted to meet him! But I turned off my "fan girl" and went into professional interviewing mode. I asked him if he would like to speak in Chinese, but he refused because his Chinese is very choppy. "You don't wanna know how choppy it is. When asked about French" My French is perfrect!" I told him our French wasn't that good, but our program is bilingual so we try to speak French.

Now, interview mode

Tanya: Bonjour, je m'appelle Tanya. I'm Richelle, je suis Adeleine. Nous sommes les journalistes pour ConnexionEtudiate. Nous somes a McDonalds pres de Science World. Voila, c'est Patrick Chan, qui a dix neuf ans. Il a recu la cinquieme place au Freestyle. Felicitations!
Patrick: Merci
Tanya: So being Chinese, how did you convince your parents to let you do figure skating? Typically, Chinese parents usually make their kids study. How did you balance that?
Patrick: I think I'm lucky to have very supportive parents who are open minded. My parents aren't the typical "too strict" parents. My mom told me as long as you were above class average then it was ok, not that "I will beat you" kind if thing. As longas I did well, both my my parents were very supportive, so I'm luck that my parents would let me do figure skating, of all sports
Tanya: So I know you also play piano?
Patrick: Yah, I haven't played in awhile. My teacher is always like: Practise 5 hours!
Tanya: Did you have to practise skating, then run to the piano?
Patrick: Sort of, but I haven't been home in a long time, so
Tanya: And you home town?
Patrick: Toronto
Adeleine: Why did the quads not win?
Patrick: Je croix que je n'ai pas gagne parce que aujordhui le patinage artistique ca va dire, le patinage artistique c'est comme au total, c'est general. Je pense que Evan a les deux performance, excellents, sans erreurs.
Richelle: I know you play hockey, of course. What are your predictions for the Gold Medal hockey?
Patrick: I would say finals would be Canada Russia, and Canada is going to win!
Tanya: Quels autre sports est ce vous jouez?
Patrick: J'aime jouer le tennis, le golf, j'aime faire du ski beaucoup, malheureusement je ne fait pas faire du ski depuis cinquieme annee. C'est trop dangereux
Richelle: Where do you see yourself twenty years later?
Patrick: I see myself in school. My career choice might change, I don't know what I wanna study, but twenty years is a long way, it's a lot to do. One thing I learned is to enjoy everything. So you wanna go into other fields?
Patrick: Yah
Adeleine: So what do you think of the new scoring system?
Patrick: I really like it. For me, its not only for the skaters but for the development of skating. I think its good for development in younger children to do better quality skating. I think we needed it, but others disagree. In my opinion it was what was needed for skating
Adeleine: Do you think it helped evolve the audience?
Patrick: Its hard for the audience to follow it, you have to do your research. The new point system is not like the 6.0 system, where everyone understood. I think it will take time, to educate the audience.
Tanya: Where do you draw inner strength? How do you prepare, mentally, and what do you do to get your self ready and feel confident?
Patrick: I try to distract myself, so I will bring my soccer ball, and play some soccer to stay loose and relaxed. When I get on the ice, its tough, its hard to see some many people and try to skate in front of them. But you have to use this as an opportunity to show what you have done and worked so hard for. All athlete Olympians are blessed with their gift, we move people. I just use that a chance to inspire, and show the passion of skating. They're not your enemies! They came and paid money to watch. See it in a different angle.
Tanya: Merci pour faiti un entrevue avec nous! Je pense que t ues tres superbe. Les canadiens sont fiere de toi. Vous gagneriez le medaille d'or a Sochi, Russie en deux mille quatorze! Merci
