The Phoenix Lights (sometimes referred to as the "lights over Phoenix") were a series of widely sighted optical phenomena (generally unidentified flying objects) that occurred in the skies over the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada, and the Mexican state of Sonora on March 13th, 1997.

Lights of varying descriptions were seen by thousands of people between 19:30 and 22:30 MST, in a space of about 300 miles, from the Nevada line, through Phoenix, to the edge of Tucson.

There were two distinct events involved in the incident: a triangular formation of lights seen to pass over the state, and a series of stationary lights seen in the Phoenix area.

The United States Air Force identified the second group of lights as flares dropped by A-10 Warthog aircraft that were on training exercises at the Barry Goldwater Range in southwest Arizona.

Witnesses claim to have observed a huge carpenter's square-shaped UFO, containing lights or possibly light-emitting engines. Fife Symington, the governor at the time, was one witness to this incident; he later called the object "otherworldly."

The lights were reported to have reappeared in 2007 and 2008, but these events were quickly attributed to (respectively), military flares dropped by fighter aircraft at Luke Air Force Base and flares attached to helium balloons released by private individuals.

Its aliens not flares flares dont turn from white to red and BTW when the army sees stuff like that happening the first thing they think about is shooting them down SMH the aliens dont do any damage to the planets they are just looking at the new life forms that have been created over time and if the army keep on shooting them down then the aliens are going to attack back with weapons more advanced than ours NOW WHO WIlL WIN HMMM US VS ALIENS we'll see soon enough if the army doesnt stop

I was watching this episode on dvd last night & listening to the commentary track. It's actually very interesting hearing how they put the episode together. I just wish they had commentaries on every episode!

@TheTrueDiablix ya its wired, i live in Winnpeg Manitoba canada and i have seen a few UFO's out this way lots of times , i havent lately but i remember seeing one ( this was a few years ago thow ) i was walking about a few blocks from my place and i looked up and this white light went from one end of the city to the other , now the radio station reported that the air port air traffic control could not recognize the object , it was really wired and it happened around 2am ish

the video they chose to show was actually a poor one. after having posted that com ment i found a documentary solely about this event where they showed significantly better footage and it's easy to distinguish these arent flares, it even proves why/how the lights go out one by one in the way that they do.

@TheTrueDiablix what crack are you on , how can it be flares ? flares dont burn for that long and they dont turn that color , and they dont all of a sudden shout right up in the sky , and plus whats his name said the army dont do testing for another 15 to 30 mins .

i gotta say, i believe in UFOs, but i agree with the military's official explanation as for the video footage. There is no "void" of any kind with those lights, thus indicating it's not one big object, but rather, many small objects. Also if you watch the video closely they change position in relation to one another, indicating that they are descending at slightly different rates. On top of that, the fact that the lights appear 1 by 1 on a definite course indicates they were dropped.
