Queen of Croatia

This is a slide show of my latest painting, "Krajlica Hrvata" or "Queen of Croatia". It was made for a Catholic Church in Chicago with Croatian parishioners (Blessed Alojzije Stepinac Church) so it has Croatian Saints and Blessed on the bottom of the painting showing their devotion to Mary, which led them to Jesus and their sainthood. The angels on either side of Mary are bringing and displaying two Marian objects of devotion, the brown scapular and the rosary. The crown has a band of "Hrvatski pleter" which associates it with the Croatians, and red and white ornamentation on the top to link it to the Hrvatski "grb". Mary is depicted similarly to descriptions of Mary made by Croatian visionaries from Medjugorje, and as she is described in the Book of Revelation from the Bible: "A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars." The Saints and blessed in the painting are Saint Nikola Tavelic, Saint Leopold Bogdan Mandic, Saint Marko Krizevcanin, Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, Blessed Augustin Kazotic, Blessed Gracija iz Mua, Blessed Ivan Merz, Blessed Jakov Zadranin, Blessed Julian iz Bala, Blessed Marija Petkovic, and Blessed Ozana Kotorska.
