I spent May 7,8,9 in George H. Crosby Manitou State Park, Minnesota. Friday started out with a heavy over-cast and it had rained earlier in the morning. Friday evening was cold, windy and it snowed. Saturday I woke up to a light snow cover on the ground. I walked from camp site 6 to camp site 10 along the Manitou River. I tried my hand at Trout Fly Fishing. I was starting to think there were no Trout in the Manitou River when I hooked into a small Brook Trout. As I was hauling my fish up out of the water it dropped off my hook. It was my first Trout ever. The scenery is of course spectacular. Walking all the way to Camp 16 and back again from the parking lot is not for the faint of heart along the West Manitou River Trail. There are a number of up and downs with steep hills about 300 feet high from River level. As an additional note, there is absolutely no trash anywhere on the ground or in the Manitou River. Too many tree huggers picking ever last bit of refuge up. Manitou State Park is absolutely pristine. My beer can was a joke
@virtualguitarist , nothing cold blooded was moving and anything warm blooded was moving pretty slow Fri. Saturday and Sunday were great weather days however. As long as you don't get a long cold rain while camping and have a good tent with a rain fly, and a warm sleeping bag and a good air-mat, life couldn't be better. I retired my 15 dollar tent and used my brother's one man tent from REI (200 dollars?) I got soaked in my cheap tent as it had no rain fly. Cold rainy days were horrid
