I used the Chopper Dan effect on my Line 6 head to imitate the effect in the beginning of the song.

  • Is the tremolo effect coming from your amp?

  • Yes, I did have a Line 6 Spider III 150 watt head. The very beginning effect was called Chopper Dan (one of the built in presets) then the tremolo effect was from the amp too. That is actually a setting on one of the knobs. I was controlling the head with the Line 6 foot pedal - I think it was called FVB or something like that. I have a Mesa head now on new vids.

  • there was nothing wrong with it . it was awesome i dont know why they are giving u a hard time

  • Thanks!

  • Not bad, but it's just not the same without the palm mutes during the verses. That's how I play it.

    Just my 2 cents :P

  • I agree. I was just trying to get the first cover on YouTube since the song came out that day and I did it all by ear after lots of beer! :)

Well, there's no shame in using one simple setting dude. Just get a nice distortion going, something that sounds nice and mean with palm mutes, and during the tremolo, just play it asa simple strum. Maybe make it a 2 string power chord, rather than the full three, so it's still distinguishable from the chorus. I don't use a pedal, just my Line 6 Spider III.

need your help underclassH. seems u know the song well. im using boss me25 now what type of effect should i mix to get that nickelback sound.

  • excellent man but go a little easier on the distortion...or is that a flanger? i can't really tell

  • Well if you must no... I had never heard this song the night I played this. I was at dinner with friends and we have a few pitchers and they bet me I couldn't come home and figure it out by ear and play it. I came in, pulled up the song and played it - wasted... It was for fun and not an audition. I can figure out pretty much any song in the first or second listen. I just have a good ear, but thanks for the comment nutsack! LMAO

  • get some practice in ... you need it ;)

  • uhmm apparantly...you DO have an account? you DID post this...

  • No, trust me. I've played this song live too many times not to know. The verses are all palm muted, with some of them finally being pulled in the pre-chorus!
