  • People don't realize how long it takes to learn Bebop! Fine players!

  • There's something kind of weird about a jazz musician playing an extended intro that comes straight off of a jazz record: Joe Pass' rendition of "Just Friends" from "I Remember Charlie Parker." I mean, it sounds good, but it's kind of weird...

  • Yes, they play well.

  • I know what you mean, but there can be worthwhile exceptions: Louis Armstrong's intro to West End Blues es de rigeur if you wish to play that traditional jazz tune. I guess that (as in all music) a lot depends on whether the thing is played with feeling, and this is a big issue with modern jazz, or should be. So many musicians tie themselves up in academic knots instead of playing what they really feel. Anyway, normally it's easier to play a fresh intro than copy a recording with equal feeling.

  • You guys are pros, definitely! Bring more! Really enjoyed this one!

  • EXCELLENT PLAYING, GUYS!...Playing jazz SHOULD be enjoyable and fun, since 99.9 percent don't get to be a millionaire doing it! (unfortunately!.)...

Why anyone wants to 'complain'...makes no sense. You guys are having a great time playing...I'm having a great time listening!...And that's what it's SUPPOSED to be about... Thanks!...for posting!...

  • not another one... why does everything be som freaking innovative and new and fresh? I guess you're musical taste is so narrow that you've lost the feeling of appreciating things. So go back to you're "special art music" place and enjoy yourself. While I'll take a dip in both of the pools. The guys here dont just noodle. These guys are making music. But maybe it's not good enough for you, so go somewhere else then. Don't critisize them for not playing according to your taste.

  • Oh dear Modes, you're a lost cause mate. The fact you had to check out Dr. Lonnie Smith before replying.. and here you are spewing out lame comments on live Jazz videos... It just speaks for itself... go back to sleep fella.

  • This is the last time I'll dignify your comments with a response slothbrain. I just checked out some Lonnie Smith to confirm what I suspected...he sure sucks it hard. Try some Larry Young or if that's too complicated for you, some Jimmy Smith. Speaking of sucking it hard, your defense of the two guys above is so aggressive, I'm starting to think you're in a love triangle. Have fun teabagging those guys at thruway reststops without any interference from me.

  • Oh yeh, one last attack on your stupid, useless comment. Dave Mitchell has worked with greats such as Jack McDuff, Lonnie Smith, Tom Harrell, Luis Belson, Peter Bernstein, Louis Stewart... the list goes on... none of those guys laughed or yawned. However I can assure you they'd shit themselves laughing at your ignorance. Turn your computer off and get out more Modes... no-one likes armchair critics. Bye! :)

  • Come on Modes, don't be afraid.. if you're so damn modern, if you're so avant garde, if you are really leading the way in new musical experimentation, if you're such a pioneer, if what you're doing is so unique, let's hear ya brother. Post something.. let's hear it. LET?S HEAR IT! Otherwise, STFU!

  • How about you post a video of cheesy, anachronistic 50's and early 60's jazz guitar cliches as well? I'm sick of everybody just copying old Barney Kessel and Tal Farlow records. Play some goddamn fourths, fifths, superimposed pentatonic lines...SOMETHING INTERESTING. If Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson or Joe Farrell heard this, they would either laugh or yawn.
