in responce to one of the comments the entire point of the lighting of the flame is to relate the modern games to the ancient games so sorry if you have to wait to see the flame lit how ever the ancient Greeks where very in to theatrics as much as they where into the sciences
-
seems like you have to forward it to 6:00.... when they actually begin to lit the flame.

@betsykhamdiev i guess you dont understand its a ritual that must be followed. im no expert but in my opinion it has to be done before accepting the flame from the god zeus.

@ChristosM1 Actually she's an actor playing a priestess, but she does a really good job of it!

Come on guys, quit complaining. First of all, the ceremonies are beautiful. But that is my opinion and means nothing. However, math is unbiased. And the math says that spending 10 minutes of your lives in exchange for thousands of years of tradition is one hell of a bargain.

true--it's just that having waded through all 4 of these videos (40+ minutes all together) to find it, it would be nice to have one short outtake with just the excerpt of the flame lighting--for those interested in physics vs the arts.
They should get a real priestess to light the flame

is there anyplace to see when the flame actually lights from the sun's rays? Lots of videos of people walking around, then women holding the flame...

Of course in this video you can see it. Don't be confused from the first flame you see in the pot. It's the flame from the general rehearsal.
