Unearthing the Picture Trap (Jouy-en-Josas, 2010)

During the first week of June 2010 the Société du Déterrement du Tableau-Piège ( http://sdtp.eu ) arranged for a team of French archaeologists to excavate meticulously, in the presence of the artist, the "Déjeuner sous l'herbe à l'occassion de l'enterrement du tableau-piège": a meal that Daniel Spoerri prepared for 120 guests on April 23rd 1983. When Spoerri indicated his guests that the time had come, all got up and joined in a ritual burial of the 20 dinner tables with all that was on them, in the park of the Domaine du Montcel in Jouy-en-Josas, south-west of Paris, where 27 years later, on wednesday June 2nd 2010, these scenes were shot.
