@EgoShredder To be honest, I don't think the spectrum, Atari and CPC crowd are that much more open minded :). However, at least in my country they were a very much smaller crowd. I hear what you say about using the available computing power, however, the power available is through the roof. Back in the 80s two or three guys made a game. Today a whole team of people are involved, with about as many people involved as you would find in a low to medium budget movie. Good talking to u 2

Yes I hate fanboys and some of the worst I have come across are Amiga and C64 owners. The Spectrum, Atari and CPC crowd are much more friendly and open minded. I would say that personally I was thrilled to be part of the 70s / 80s era of computing, which sums up how I feel about then and now. I just wish modern day programmers would use the power available more efficiently, like they HAD to back in the 80s. Good to talk with you by the way :-)

@EgoShredder Looking over the conversation in this thread, I imagine I used the term fanboy because some person was very angered that I think the overall gaming experience was much better on the Commodore 64. As you state, some titles might have been great on the Amstrad, however, I said overall. Then he ranted about some (very excellent) cpc demo made in 2011 to prove his point. Just seemed like a fanboy. You might very well be an enthusiast. I don't mind people using their comps.

@EgoShredder Well, the prices on ebay just reflect how much hardware is available at any given time. Not necessarily how many people do the hobby. Know what you mean though with these prices. Decided against reviving my amiga days, and concentrating on my current machines instead.

A fanboy is an idiot who argues blindly against all other reasonable arguments. An enthusiast however is someone who has a sincere & genuine love of something that holds wonder or achievement etc, & is happy to devote time and money into sharing this passion with others. I am in the latter category! I was a kid of the 70s and 80s & the first home computer owning generation. I returned to this via emulation in the late 90s, which was a total surprise to me. Emulation was great but hollow.

I agree it is not a common activity, otherwise the prices on Ebay would reflect this, i.e. much lower!

@EgoShredder There is no need to seek approval for owning and using computers from the past. However, normal people hardly do it. If you don't like the term fanboy, then let's call it enthusiast or hobbyist. Some people still like to screen super 8 films on a white sheet every once in a while, however, most people had them transferred to DVD if they enjoyed watching them a lot. Enjoy it, never said you shouldn't. But don't try to pass it off as being a very common activity.

@EgoShredder Yes, the Amstrad certainly had it's strengths. I never denied that, however the strengths were so rarely taken advantage of that most titles were better on Commodore and Spectrum. Scrolling being the biggest problem with Amstrad. But some beautiful screenshots from Amstrad though. But let's face it, even though I had great times with my 8-bit Commodore, Amiga blew it out of the water. And my PC blew my Amiga out of the water. And so forth. Nice memories though.
