By special request, from 'TheMandyduncan', here is another of the classic recordings by the late, great, Ken Colyer. Recorded in the Railway Hotel, Hampstead, London in 1956.
It is not perfect, but it captures well the sounds of the 'clubs' in those days. There is a great example of Ken's playing about half way through (from about 3 min. from the start, and to the end)
[I have just noticed that my channel has now had half a million hits, so I must be doing something right!!]

  • Together with the performance of Papa Bue the best ever of this great Traditional Classic.

  • one of our favouries in top twenty NO music! reminds us of Camberley jazz club and golden star in norwich - although alas Ken never came to Star but his music was alive there!agree with nuberoneson1 youngsters dont know what they have missed

  • see this band at coney hill jazz club brighton uk in the 50's......still get a lump to my throat for the good memories...you youngsters don't know what you've missed.10/10

  • I also used to go listen this band in the 50's. They sound as good now as they did then.

  • Without doubt the best around at the time and an inspiration to those who played and those that just listened!

  • Ken was so great that several yeuars ago a fine band was formed named the Ken Colyer International Memorial Jazzband leading by a great Dutch tromboneplayer Ben Rinia. Look for the band on You tube!

  • Great music, have always liked Ken C, since I bought his record in 1958.

Sorry to say that he left us to early.

  • Wonderful recording - opening my heart. It reminds me of the sixties when, as a youngster, I listened to BFN radio on Sundays here in Germany and inhaled many of the traditional jazz tunes. Thanks for uploading !

  • Great sound.

  • bon banjo
