John "Toast" Oast of Fishyaker.com demonstrates how easy and cheap it is to make your own paddle leash for your kayak. All you need is a thin piece of line, a clip and some velcro tape. Make sure you don't lose your paddle on open water!

  • I wonder if the double adhesive tape can stand wet condition ?!

  • I have been using them in salt water conditions for years, and they have never come loose. It probably depends on the quality of the veklcro tape.

  • Simple and awesome ideas. I just bought a Kayak and now I can save money and build my own leashes. Thanks John!

  • You're very welcome. Thanks!

  • John - This is not only a good design for a paddle leash, this would also be a good design for a spinning rod leash. Nicely done - clear, concise. Thank you!

  • You can use the same technique with the phone cord too. For a rod leash, the coiled phone cord will keep it out of the way when not in use. Thanks Don!

  • great video. This will help save me some money. Thank you for putting this up for everyone.

  • Great Idea!! Thanks!

  • Great idea John.

Just knocked up two of these.

    Many thanks for the video.

  • That seems pretty obvious

  • This is a neat demo, but I was mystified for the longest time because my velcro wouldn't do what yours does. FINALLY I learned there's two kinds of velcro. You might say in your sidebar, "Be sure to use STICKY BACK velcro." Otherwise it's a great little video.

  • thanks. maybe 3M tape play best

  • John - Just finished this. I used a coiled phone cord too, but found that it was a bit slick and cable ties didn't hold well. Remedy was to use a piece of duct tape first under the cable ties. Definitely holds tight now. Thanks many. Keep those great ideas coming.
