a quick video showing the 'making of Coal beat'.

This is a very basic jazzy beat compriing of eight samples taken from an obscure jazz track, with perc sounds layered around it.

I had already saved a pattern when I hit record, the pad punching is me muting and unmuting pads (some pads are set to mute multiple parts)

I guess you mean the MPC..

In excess of £1000.. for that you get a sequencer, fx, automation, 8channel multitrack recorder, analogue synth and most importantly the Akai A/D D/A filter :)

What your looking at is a Roland Tr626 drum machine, there are a few samplers just out of shot (S20, S5000, ESI14000T) but you cant see them in this video.
