Along with Vera Lynn, Anne Shelton was the Forces Sweetheart during the war but despite hit records up untill 1961 she remains almost unknown today. Anne performed with Glenn Miller and due to prior commitments had to turn down his offer to travel to Versailles to entertain the troups, Glenn Miller disappeared en route to Versaille. She later performed with Bing Crosby and made her first US tour in 1949.

  • Wonderful voice. Amazing breath control. Funny I never heard of Anne

before. (I was a toddler during WWII.)

Have to go listen to some more of her recordings. Thanks for

    posting.

  • Absolutely charming, lovely phrasing, perfect diction. She really was a superb singer of romantic ballads.

  • Anne is my Favourite and I just love her voice.

    Warm regards

    Richard

  • anne has a sister who made records under the name of JO SHELTON does anyone have any of these for us to enjoy.

  • I wouldnt call Anne "underrated"!She was and still is a big name.To my opinion she was the best female vocalist(apart from classical singers of course)the UK produced in the last 70 years. In my country Holland she was much appreciated too and to young singers with too much pretention they used to say:Who do you think you are? Anne Shelton?!!Anne had a glorious voice in her prime, almost sounded semi-classical with her dark mezzo-voice.With respect for Vera Lynn but Anne was voicewise far better

  • absolutely gorgeous singer lovely strong voice full of feeling, thankyou so much for posting this gem of a song.

  • A fantastic underrated singer.

  • great song well done one of the best versions ive heard would love to have heard the king sing it

  • A very full strong voice!
