Burning of potassium nitrate and sucrose. This is a dry mixture. Just weigh out the two reactants and mix together thoroughly.

You can see in the video still the lilac colored flame due to the presence of potassium ions.

I created this channel for the sole purpose to help spread the interest in science, mainly chemistry. The decline of scientific interest in the United States is rather disappointing. After I cruised YouTube a bit I noticed all the other channels similar to mine and I thought about canceling this channel; however, after thinking about the decline of science, I decided to keep making videos until I just run out of ideas.

  • @beracribizli The fact that you said "noob" makes you look like a complete idiot, I bet you couldn't even dream about conducting such a concoction.

  • from an old school point of view.... 50/50 mix for an uber smoke bomb. it is hard to light with a open flame but simple to ignite with a cigarete. no need for a stupid scale just eye ball it. i used to mess around with that stuff in 10 pound lots of potasium nitrate.

  • its a fier not a smoke

    noob

you need to cook it first

    noob

and put it in some can

    noob

    and thad light it

    NOOB

  • @W9754R3 no problemo

  • @TapRackBoom I will, thank you!

  • @W9754R3 baking soda, mix it in, small ammounts then adjust your ammount as you would like, some want alot of smoke fast, some want less smoke but for longer, just experiment around with it.

  • Is there a way to make it last longer? Just curious...

  • You should use the caramelising method instead of mixing the components in dry state, it works much better! (dissolve both the sugar and the KNO3 in little hot water and boil until it becomes slightly yellowish, but don't forget stirring!) It will give less flames and more smoke (I've got a vid up where I do both methods). And yeah you're right, Na2CO3 slows down the combustion. After lots of testing I'd recommend KNO3:sugar:Na2CO3 = 4:3:1.

But anyways, very nice smoke 5*!
