In 1965, Marvel released a special recording featuring the voices of the famous Marvel Bullpen (the staff at the comic book company), to the Marvel Comics fan club members, The Merry Marvel Marching Society. This is a video I put together to go with that recording.

Producer/Director: Matthew Hawes

A special thanks to the gang at the John Byrne forum, who helped me with gathering the photos!

Dedicated to the original Marvel Bullpen. And though I didn't get to include it in the video, a special dedication goes out in memory of a later Marvel Bullpen member, Dave Cockrum, who left us on November 26, 2006. Rest in peace, Dave.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for creating and posting this. I was too young to get in on the first MMMS kit, (but I did save my allowance for the second). This brings back lots of great memories: eagerly waiting for the new comics to come to the neighborhood drug store and arguing with my friends that Marvel comics were far superior to DC! Thanks!

  • My pleasure! Thank you!

  • flo stienberg sure was a cutie! About Chic Stone, I've read some things online not to complementery about how he treated other artists, but I can say, from personally corisponding with him, he was a great guy, not a snob, who did care about helping tallent improve for the industry.I own one of his brushes.

  • Flo certainly was a cutie! She was interviewed for the TRUE BELIEVER documentary about Stan Lee. That film will be released this coming year, and I have been working with the producers as a kind of consultant and also running the film's official MySpace page. YouTube doesn't allow limks, but if you Google "Stan Lee True Believer," the official site is one of the first results, and the official MySpace is not far below that.

  • Indeed. Stan supposedly based The Fantastic Four's Ben Grimm on Jack Kirby's personality...

  • THING HAS 5 FINGERS?!!?!

  • I was a member of the MMMS and had this record. What a thrill it was to hear the voices of my favorite creators.

  • @HCShannon Yes, that's the same guy.

  • Is that the same Al Hartley who drew those Christian comics (inlcuding some featuring Archie and his friends!) for Spire?

  • @alwrig, I believe so.

  • Was Stan G the same one who was an artist at Archie?

  • I lived in Belfast Northern Ireland in the 1960s and sent 1.00 US back in 1965 to Marvel and lo and behold a few months later a brown buff envelope dropped through the letterbox. The record was made of a pliable plastic and had this recording on it. Jeez it's great to hear it again after all these years. Takes me back to a simpler time, when my great joy was swapping comics with my friends. We were all superheroes then!!! Thanks for posting this.

  • This is quite possibly the greatest thing ever.

  • The segment between Sam Rosen and Artie Simek is golden ... I have tears in my eyes while I'm laughing ...
